Waste
You'll quickly realize that drying fruits produce a lot of waste: the skin (when not used), the stone/pit and other leaves. Some waste can be reused:
- stones or pits for making pit bags: they are useful in periods of cold. Simply put pits in a closed cotton bag. Then this kind of "hot-water bottle" can be put a few times in or on top of an oven where it will accumulate heat. The bag is a perfect in bed or on the couch watching TV. The best pit for this type of use is the cherry pit.
- Skkin to make teas: if you don't like the skin on dried fruit, but you think the skin may be consumed, you can dry the skin first, to make tea. You can use the skin of apple and pear. Most other fruit skin is not used as herbal tea.
For all other non-reusable waste I invite you to put them in your compost.
Other food you can dry
It's almost possible to dry anything (which contains water of course):
- Herbs to make herbal teas or for any meals
- Meat or fish for longer storage
- Preparation for cereal bars
I have not experienced all list. If you have more information or advice, please leave a message.
